Happy Birthday!

Well since I'm here at the computer, rather than putting it off, I should do a REAL update!

So far this summer has been pretty uneventful. Other than Sarah's cousins coming over and an Pet Therapy, I haven't done much. So I'll post some pix of me!

Yeah we're a little behind, it's not that we've really been busy, mostly just too lazy to update!

Well we had a REALLY big snow like we haven't had since WAY before I was born on March 1st. We got over 7 inches! It shut the power out for nearly 24 hours. I had sooooo much fun in the snow! It was awesome!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Friday night is the first night of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Friday night we'll have the Passover Seder. You read from a special book called the Haggadah, and say special prayers. At different parts you eat Matza, Have herbs and dip them in salt water, have matza and horseradish, have matza and charoset (an apple mixture), and have latza' matza! So right now you're probably thinking "What on Earth is Matza?"

Well I'll tell you. Matza is unleavened bread. During the Feast of Unleavened Bread you don't eat any leaven, so that means no bread, no cookies, no pancakes, no cake, no pizza, no anything with yeast. When the Israelites were leaving Egypt they didn't have much time to bake their bread, so they made small unleavened bread that wouldn't rise.

Because of that reason and because leaven symbolises sin, The Feast of Unleavened Bread is a time where you get rid of the sin in our lives and focus on other things.

The first and last day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread are set-apart and you're not supposed to do any work.

So that's Passover in a nut-shell!

My owner has sooo many presents on her floor all wrapped neatly. In the midst of them all lies a single Wal+Mart bag, inside are treasure beyond imagination, treasure so great I can't keep my nose out of it! It is . . . it is . . . it is . . . MY BAG!!! There's rawhide chews, and toys in there! How can Sarah expect me to wait until tomorrow night????

I'm sure Jewish dogs all over are feeling the same way right about now.

I'll fill you in on what happens and what I get each night!

How to play Dreidel

Remember what we were telling you about? Dreidels? Well here's how to play, you start off by getting a dreidel. We suggest that you get the smaller wooden or plastic ones, the big wooden or large hollow plastic ones don't hardly spin at all. You need something to "gamble" with, some people use pennies but the games' more interesting with something tasty like candy. The "pot" is the middle of the table where the stuff you put in goes.

This letter is called a Shin it makes the "sh" sound in Hebrew, when you get this you give half of what you have into the pot (There is another letter that looks like this, called a sin, it makes the "s" sound it has a dot on the left side a shin is supposed to have a dot on the right)

This letter is called Nun it makes the "n" sound in Hebrew, when the dreidel lands on this letter you do nothing.

This letter is called a Gimmel it makes the "G" (like goldfish) sound in Hebrew, when you get this letter you take all that is in the pot

The red letter is called a Hey it makes the "H" sound in Hebrew, when the dreidel lands on this letter you take half of the pot.

Each time a turn is done, everyone puts one in the pot then it is the next persons turn.

There is another way to play dreidel, perhaps we'll post that another day.

Hanukkah's comming!!

Yep, that's right!!! Only about two more weeks to go!

For all of those who don't know about Hanukkah, I'll summarize, or well I'll try! (Some of this I will paste from a play Sarah and Anna Marie wrote it's all true, mostly)

Our story begins in the Middle East about 21 centuries ago when it was under the influence of the Greek culture. There were many who were open to the Greeks and their ways . . . at first. After all, who wouldn't want things like philosophy, literature and SPORTS?!?! But then they began to forget the ways of their ancestors. They started to dress like 'em, talk like 'em and well you get the picture. In the small town of Judea, however the folks there didn't take too well to the Greeks and their ways. The Greeks didn't mind, hey they paid there taxes so there wasn't a problem. So everything was OK until 175 B.C.E. when a guy with a bad attitude came to the throne, his name was Antiochus of Epiphanes, try saying that 10 times fast. Let's just he wasn't OK with just tax money with him it was more of a convert or die type of thing.

So Antiochus and his men chased everyone off, but a guy named Judus Maccabeas, and his army of Israelites came and fought back all the bad guys. Then when they chased everyone off, they had to rededicate the temple. According to legend the only oil they had was supposed to last one day but lasted for 8 days, long enough to get more oil! The oil parts' just legend but it could be true.

You may have heard of dreidels, little tops that have four different Hebrew letters on them, Gimel, Nun, Shin, Hey, which stands for Nes Gadol Hayah Sham, which means: A Great Miracle Happened There, but in Israel the dreidels, say Nes Gadol Hayah Poh or A Great Miracle Happened Here. They played dreidels so that the kings men wouldn't know they were studying, they would just act like they were playing a game. Someday I might post how to play the dreidel game!

The reason people exchange gifts on Hanukkah is probably just an American thing, because the little Jewish kids wanted presents like the Christian's who did Christmas, so we give gifts on Hanukkah now!

We light candles each night on something called a Hanukkiah or Menorah, eight candles is to symbolise the oil lasting 8 days. The shamesh, which is normally in the middle of the menorah is lit first, then you light the other candles with the shamesh. There are other menorahs, called Temple Menorahs they only have 5 candles. Each night of Hanukkah you light the Shamesh first then go from right to left and on the first night you light the shamesh and the first candle to the right and the second day you light the shamesh and the first and second candles to the right and so on and so forth. Many people say that Hanukkah is the Festival of Lights, but really it's the Festival of Dedication.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Yesterday morning I had the runs, had two baths other than that my day was great!

All morning I had to watch people pile up at my girlfriend's house, everybody wanted to see Josie! But finally my time came, everyone came to see me!!! We had a Thanksgiving supper instead of a lunch. During the meal I had to stay under my owners' chair, I couldn't have much, only the microscopic things that fell on the floor. Poor me.

Over-all, though, I liked this year better than last year! Last year I was attacked by Sarah's uncle's dog!

Hey guys, I'm not feeling good right now - again. I just started having to go out and throw in the past few hours, but I barely just hacked, it's not like huge piles of puke or anything. But I just had diarrhea, I think. Now I'm laying in front of the heater. (Always my favorite spot when the weather gets cooler.)

I went all night without throwing up! I'm doing so much better that I really didn't want to get my medecine, I kicks and hit my owner's mom so her dad had to help too! I keep telling them that I"m all better and don't need anymore medecine!

Half and Half

Well I'm getting better, I tihnk. I'm kinda in the middle of being sick and being better, half and half.

We went to the vet today but only to get that anal gland expressed.

I got a bath and ran around like crazy, but around 3 or so I threw up all my food. About 10 minutes after I threw up a little pile.

Then Nana came over and I got crazy again!

I haven't thrown up since around 3. I just ate some rice and am about to get my medecine so I gotta go!

We went to the vet today got a shot thing to keep me hydrated and got some other things done, I even ate some rice and iams dog food today!

Last night (at 1 in the morning!) I had an accident in my owner's floor, almost like diarrhea, all over the floor!

So we went to the vet as soon as they opened! I had to sleep in the crate after that!

Well Shadow hasn't thrown up again since about 4 or whenever he did this afternoon.

If he's not better tomorrow morning, we'll take him to the vet. He's still kinda tired, but he did drink some water.

I've recently discovered that Shadow likes frogs. Shadow usually ignores the TV but when a show call Fogmania came on he just sat and stared at the TV! That's the longest I've ever seen him watch Television!!!

Well I've got some good news as well, in a week or so I will be watching a friend's hamster! Well anyways, more updates later. But at least he hasn't thrown up in a while!

Hey everyone!

Good news! Shadow hasn't thrown up since around 7 or 8 this morning! He's still a little droopy and he's only eatin a little bit of chicken baby food, but he's getting better, I think. We called the vet and they said to wait till this afternoon and he hasn't gotten worse so I think he'll be fine! :)

This is Sarah speaking, Shadow has been throwing up since 3 or 3:30 today, it's really not throwing up though, it's whiteish and watery. Like perging. He's really been droopy and has a dry nose. We have some medecine from our neighbor and I'll let ya'll know when he starts to feel better.

Hey guys! Just have a few minutes here. I got to go to Pet Theray last Tuesday and then yesterday. I had fun!

At the vet open house a few weeks ago, as you may recall, I told you that we entered a picture of me in the "Cutest Pet Contest" and guess what . . . . I WON!!!!!

When we got there we met a little Aussie, he was just a little puppy, so cute! We got to play a little bit! He really liked to play.

For the prizes we got:

a magnet

3 rawhides

a rope toy

a duck toy ( I LOVE this one!)

a drink toy

I think that was all. I only got the duck, though, my owner is saving the other toys for another day!

Hey guys! After a lot of time loading them on the computer yesterday, my owner and I got the pictures from Succot on the computer and (if blogger will cooperate) we can post them.

Today we went to the Vet's Open House thing. They had a petting zoo two! Only a tiny cow, a few goats and a little pig, nothing too fancy. I was ok, until I realized that those things were real and alive! Then I kinda freaked out and wouldn't stop barking! They were strange! I had to alert everyone that there were odd animals at the vet!

When we first got there I wasn't sure what to thing. Usually when we go to the vet something bad happens to me. But today was different. We got to go for a tour around their new building and look at how they do surgeries (on stuffed animals) and stuff like that. I got to enter the "Cutest Pet Contest", the nurses thought I was really cute, we submitted a picture with me and with a paci in my mouth!

My owner won 3 prizes for different things! I really want her stuffed dog that she got!

We also got to see one of the nurses dog and the two vets' dogs.

It was really fun today, I got really excited and I kinda had an accident. Well it wasn't really an accident, we were outside, but on the sidewalk! My owner put me in a "sit" and I was just so excited that I sat and peed on myself! I didn't have to get a bath though, so it wasn't too bad! :) At least it didn't happen when we were inside the building!

We're back!!!!!!!!!

Hey everybody!!!
We're back!!!
We got back Thursday night.

At first my owner though I was gong to really be a hand full, I was soooo excited when I saw Rusty I flipped out! But by the second day I started getting used to being around so many dogs and met many of them without barking, but not all of them . . . . . . .

Even though we were at camp, I had to go in the crate some, like during services. Dogs weren't allowed to the services, with exception to Larkin, who is a service dog.

But during the movies I could come! So I watched the end of Fiddler on the Roof, the end of Paper Clips me and another poodle, Moshe got to sneek in, and then Veggie Tales!! My owner, Anna Marie, and others helped the cook serve the meals every night.

One of my owner's friend's mom brought some dog things one day, her parents Schnauzer, Annabelle dies not long ago :( and they brought some of her old things. I got two collars, a leash, a harness and a newspaper toy.

On some of the real cold nights I got to sleep in the RV with my owner and her mawmaw.

I got to go to two campfires. The humans ran out of spooky stories so my owner had to tell the Wizard of Oz! The next one they just told jokes!

Before I knew it, Succot was over!!!

I had a lot of fun running around like crazy at the campground, but I'm also happy that I'm home, with my beds and floors to sleep on!
I mean sleeping in the tent and RV was ok, but I think I'll be happy here at home - at least until next year!!

As you can see from the pictures, we're getting ready for Succot!!! I helped my owner with some packing, then we went all around the house (and outside too) for a pre-Succot training session! I did well, my owner was going to take me off lead, but she didn't feel like watching me that closely. But she didn't hold my leash the whole time. There was lots of "downs" and "stays" while she went off somehere else. The only place I wouldn't go to "sit" and "stay" was near the hose pipe!!!

Unfortunately Science had somehow made it's way into my owners packing list!

My after getting groomed, my owner thinks I look like I did when she first got me, just bigger!

Hey guys! I'm so glad that I get to go to Succot with my humans!! Last year they were packing up their camping stuff, when they got me, the Sunday after (I got here on a Friday) they set up the chairs and stuff and let me run around and watch them! It was cool, but I think I'll have the full effect when we get there!!!

We made it through Yom Kippur ok. I, of course, had to be in the crate while my people were at the service. When they got home they brought two cousins and an Uncle!!! Lots of fun!!! But all they felt like doing was sitting around and talking, not very exciting, apparently fasting doesn't make you feel like doing much! I'm glad I didn't have to fast!!! Why is it called a fast? I mean the time goes by slowly, not fast?

Well tomorrow my owners are dragging out camping supplies and getting ready to leave on Wednesday!!!

SUCCOT!!!!!!!

Hey guys! You might have heard from Anna Marie and Rusty that Succot, the feast of tabernacles is coming up in 5 days!!! This is my owner's favorite feast/festival/holiday, last year I wasn't with my owner at this time, I was about 7 or 8 weeks then, I was still with the breeder, my owner got me after Succot, on October 12, this year Succot is a little later. Tomorrow is Yom Kippur and then only 4 more days till we leave!!!

Hey guys!

On Saturday night my owner and her brothers went to their Granparents house, the great thing is, they brought me!! I really wanted to go on the car ride and was almost surprised when they allowed my to go! But I whined the whole way, I mean car rides are ok, but long ones aren't for me. So anyway, not llong after we got there mom and dad left! I kept expecting them to come back, but they didn't all night!! We played and my owners watched movies and stuff. After a while it was time for bed, I really didn't want to go, but my owner made me. I kept both of us awake half the night, I just couldn't go to sleep in the dark and boring Play Room. Finally it was time to wake up! My owner woke up then I woke up and then after waking Pawpaw up, we went outside, they have a fence but I stayed on the leashe, Sadie, the nieghbor's dog, doesn't like me very much, and I can slip out of the fence at the entrence. I wasn't allowed to wake everyone up, but they soon were all awake anyway! And then Mawmaw had good smelling breakfast sizzling on the stove! But, wouldn't you guess, they would even let me have one biscuit!!! Around lunch time mom and dad came back for us! I was soooo happy to see them! After all, Mawmaw and Pawpaw's house is grat, but they don't have aproper window to look out! We did commands and stuff while we were there, my owner made me do "Under" the whole time she was eating her Chicken Noodle Soup!! I'm just learning that command so Sarah likes to do it with me! She says I'm doing good with it, so I posted a video to show you!

But since my owner and her family have been kinda sick lately, we decided it wouldn't be a good idea to be around the people there.

Finally some time to do some real posting!

Hey guys! We've been doing a lot lately! Anna Marie slept over on Saturday, then on Sunday she and Sarah and my owner's mom went to the mall to watch Larkin and Ms. Kimberley and the field trainer's demo dog, Nitro. Then on Monday my owners were all gone all day! Then today around 2 we went to Nursing Home 2 to do Pet Therapy! After stopping by the eye doctor, and my owner's mom leaving us leaving us in the car, we went to the nursing home! I was distracted so I didn't do my agility right until like the 5th try, but what do they expect I can't resist seeing all those people!!! They wanted to pet me!! So after my owner took of the leash again I was ready, I even did it in my vest, I'm usually don't like it but now I don't even care! In the hallway someone was vacuuming, it was kinda scary, but when my owner said "Let's go", I stuck my tail up and didn't hesitate to go past it! She was so happy! But after, my owner's mom stopped by the library, and left us in the car. I cried the whole time, I couldn't help it, one of my peeps was leaving me! I couldn't just stand by and let it happen! Sarah didn't seem to worried about it though. Finally she came back! Then we went home. After this post I'm going to take a well deserved nap!!

Therapy Vest!

My owners were working on my Therapy Vest last night, so that meant some boring sitting around a trying on. It put me to sleep, really!

So yeah, it looks good, but it'll take some time to get used to, I don't really like the way it feels!

It says "Peease Pet Me, I'm Working!" Rather than like Service or Guide Dog vests Say "Please DON'T Pet Me, I'm Working!" Cute huh?

Hey everybody! Happy Labor Day! We had family over and my owner's cousin brought a puppy he's baby sitting! She was so cute! She's about 5 months old, maybe, a mutt and her name is Maddie. ADORABLE!! We couldn't play off leash because she is so much smaller than me and I might have hurt her. So here's some pics of cute lil Maddie!

Hey everybody!!! We have a lady in our congregation that got a service dog yesterday, he's so cute! He didn't have on his vest because it was his meeting everyone day! He is so adorable! His name is Larkin. I got to walk him twice! And his doodie is twice as big as Shadow's!! But I didn't mind! Larkin is almost two years old and is a black lab. Well I know that you can't wait to see him so here's some pics!!! (Oh and Shadow don't worry, you can meet him when we go camping!)

BEACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey everybody!!! We just got back from the beach! We left on Wednesday and got back today!!!

Panic!

Well on Monday we were all getting ready for our big beach trip! So my owner asked her parents if they could check real quick, just to make sure they allowed pets and this is what we saw:

So as you can guess we wer all pretty freaked out about it! So after a walk my owner's dad called his friend (it was his beach house) and he had a dog and he lived in on eof the Pets Allowed spots! And better yet, he had a fence in the back yard so I didn't hardly ever have to wear a leash!!!

The ride up

Well then came the hard part---the ride!!! It was a long 6 hour ride!!! I had to stay in the cramped car, either on my bed on the floor or on my owner's back, (after about an hour of me squriming on her back she didn't let me sit on her lap anymore!) I didn't get sick or have any accidents in the car, so that was good! After the first hour I calmed down and slept, for 5 hours straight!

After riding for a few hours we stopped at Arby's to stretch our legs and grab a bite!

But of course they didn't order anything for me!!!

So we all got settled back in for more hours of riding!!!

Arriving!

It was ;ate, maybe 8 something, when we got to the beach house. It was a really cool place, the fence was really great! I was just happy to be out of the car! (I think everyone was!)

The beach!

Well I've never been to the beach before and it was pretty scary!!! Big waves crashing in people and dogs everywhere!!! It was exciting! I could only go on the beach before 9am and after 5pm but that was ok, I wasn't too fond of the beach anyway!!!

There were PLENTY of things to bark at! (My owner was a little frustrated because I barked too much, but when she brought treats I did better!)

When we weren't on the beach it was just mostly just R&R!!!

Well before too long it was time to pack up and get in the car for 6 more hours of sleep and plenty of BarlowGirl in the MP3Player! My owner had lonts more pictures but seeing as school starts tomorrow we ddidn't want to spent all night on blogger!!!

It sure is!!!

It's my birthday today!!! As of today I am 1 years old! I had a little party too! My owners were gone and busy in the kitchen so I thought that they forgot! But then Josie came over! Her owner got me a present!!! And my owners made brownies for the people and a BIG dog biscuit for me and Josie!!! But I got jealous and didn't want Josie to have my piece! So we had to break it in half. I ate mine but Josie just kept walking around the room with hers! I got lots of presents! I hope you like them! Well we've had a very busy day! We woke up early, got ready and went to another nursing home! This time we didn't have to go into everyone's different rooms, we just saw a bunch of people in one room, next time we go I can bring my agility course and show them!!! I was really shy at first, more so than at the other place, but we weren't there as long. I did my tricks for people I even stayed when my owner/trainer put down my leash, even though other people were calling me! I can't wait to go back!

Hey everyone! We've been a little busy lately! First my owner left me with the family while she was gone for a few days! When she got back we went to a nursing home, to do Pet Therapy! We got to see lots of people! I didn't have any accidents and I wasn't too hyper! (Which is surprising!) I was scared when I heard a vacum down the hall, but I did good even with the people in wheelchairs! A few times I was a little shy, but mostly I just wanted to see people!

Ok guys, I know I've been doing a lot of small posts lately but now I'm going to tell you when and what I'll be doing!

What: Pet Therapy/Animal Assisted Therapy, meaning I'll be visiting local nursing homes twice a week with my owner/trainer.

When: Starting Next Monday at 3:00 p.m. and starting at the other nursing home Next Thursday at 10:30 a.m. If they like me and I do alright, I'll be going twice a week at these times.

Yes! My owners have finally made the calls! They have called two nursing homes in town, both allow pet therpy, I don't think I'll be going with a group but I still can't wait! I'm probably going to have to work on not being so scared all the time but I'm sure I'll be a therapy dog in no time!

My trainer and I have been working on agility! She says I'm doing really well, because I've done it for a few audiences. At first I was scared of the hoop but now I'm not! The first time we did it I was supposed to jump over a bar, but the next day I didn't want to! But now I happily jump over it! =) I even preformed it in front of my girlfriend! (Josie a "toy" poodle) Right now the makeshift flyball course is set up in the living room, but soon we'll move on to outside and I'll get a ball and go backwards through the course but right now I think just going through it once is enough!

Today my owners put me in they're pool! I swam like a natural! But I was only in for a minute or two and then I was done! They're oging to be taking me in a lot more so I can get used to it and then go for longer swims! After all I am a poodle! Poodles are water dogs, we were bred to be fishermen's helpers, actually the real name was puddle, but people got it kind of mixed up so the breed name is now poodle! That's a little bit of history for ya!

Quirky Shadow!

A note from my owner/trainer:
I've been reading other guide dog blogs and saw that a few others are writing about they're dogs in trainings' quirks and I thought "Hey! That might not be such a bad idea!" Becuase my dog Shadow, is a pretty weird dog! lol
So here's the list!

1 He's a poodle and poodles are watewr loving dogs, but Shadow is scared of water! (and just about everything else!)

2 After a bath he runs around like mad, and he does that sometimes when you stare him in the eye he'll go crazy too!

3 When he eats he grabs a few bites, runs ito the living room with them and then drops them and picks them up one by one and then eats then!

4 When Shadow gets tired from running around he pants with his tongue hanging out in front, but the other dog I train, Josie sticks her tongue to the side and when he plays with her he sticks his tongue to the side the way she does!

5Shadow tears apart his dog bed no matter how many times I repair it!

6 When I give Shadow a piece of ice he plays with it at first, then he sits down and licks and bites it till it's real small then he leaves it on the rug to melt.

7 Shadow only chases his tail after a bath.

8 After Shadow gets done from his running laps around the house, he'll lay down on something, the ground, pillow blanket, then he digs real fast on it and after we call him down he just sits on it and lets out a snort, cause he didn't get his way!

9 When you get on Shadow's nerves or don't give him what he wants he'll sneeze at you.

10 He often has one of his ears filpped over and his left one is flipped up right now!

11 He has to greet everybody! If someone comes over that he hasn't greeted he'll sit and whine the whole time they're here!

Well that's all I can think of, why don't you put together a "quirk list" and post it on your dog's blog!

Crazy Day!

Yesterday was a very crazy day! My owners' cousins had been staying here for a few days and we took them home yesterday, then when we got to their house I was going to the bacyard where the neighbor's dogs wouldn't stop barking at me! Then my owners and me got back in the car and drove to PetSmart, there wereso many smells! But it was kinda scary! OK, OK I admit I was scared out of my skin! My tail was down the whole time, I mean my owners had a big buggy right beside my and there were people and animals and well lots of stuff! So after looking at some reptile stuff we went to the place where they have the leashes, collars, halters, harnesses and that kind of stuff. After lots of looking we found a new harness! It's black and kinda reminds me of a sled dog's harness or a guide or service dog harness, it's different than my old one. It was hard not to grab the treat bags and the dog toys when my owner/trainer told me to leave it, but I listened and she brought treats in her pocket from home and I got some! Even though I was a little shaky my owner said that I did very good listning to every command, I even did "heel" for a while! And best of all I didn't have any accidents while we were there, when I was alittle puppy I was so scared of PetSmart that I peed on my owner's mom! Soon I'll show you what my new harness looks like!

No they're not a cat and mouse but two bearded dragon lizards. Tom is the biggest one and Jerrie is the littler one. Sometimes I like to bark at Tom when he moves around and he turns his beard black on me! When they grow up they'll get to be about 2 feet long, counting the tail. When the hmans get them out I have to be on the leash or in the crate, because I'm to big to play with them. =(

It's nearly summer so that's means lots of swimming! My owners have a pool, but I can't get in because of the chymicals, I might mess up the liner and I don't even think I would want to go swimming! My owner was looking at some pictures that she took the second day I came to my home, here. She noticed how small I was and then she thought that it would be neat to show a picture of me in that same chair same toy and same everything, to see just how much I've grown! And in the pictures of me as a little puppy I'm wearing the same collar but I was so small that it was as small as it could go and it was tied in a knot! Now it isn't as tight as it will go and definitely not in a knot!

I know a few more like "find" and "get it" but they aren't on this video, but I'm sure you'll enjoy it anyway! My owner and I have been working on the "find" command, so I thought you might want to see me in action! If you look you can see that I'm wearing my spy dog/therapy dog/search and rescue dog vest! My newest command is kind of similar. We're in the "heel" position, on a normal walk and then my owner "accidentally" drops something on the floor and tells me to get it, I pick it up and drop it in her hand, but sometimes I just pick it up and drop it before my owner is ready!
